A Nigerian national has been charged in the United States with voting in a federal election while not a citizen and with making a false claim of US citizenship.
Michael Agah, aged 74, is a lawful permanent resident. The US Department of Justice announced on 2 November 2026 that he faces charges in the Western District of North Carolina of voting by an alien and of making a false claim to US citizenship to vote.
Prosecutors allege that Agah falsely stated and claimed that he was a US citizen on an Authorization to Vote Form. He then voted in a federal election on 5 November 2024.
The charges are accusations only. Agah is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
