Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Monday, 2 November 2026, convicted and sentenced a couple, Harry Uyanwanne and Oluwakemi Odia (also known as Kristein Uyanwanne), to fourteen years imprisonment each for fraud involving N67,659,592. The court also ordered full restitution of the sum to the petitioner, Olusola Odemuyiwa.
The convicts were jailed on a three count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Directorate 1. They were discharged on a fourth count of forgery.
One of the counts stated that Kemi Odia and Harry Uyanwanne (also known as Ben Ololorma), sometime in 2010 in Lagos, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, sold the property known as Number 19 Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Oyingbo, Lagos, to one Harry Dyawanne for Sixteen Million Naira. They falsely represented that they were authorised to sell the property by the bona fide beneficiaries of the Estate of Late Dr Moshood Babatunde Odemuyiwa, a representation they knew to be false.
At their arraignment, the couple pleaded not guilty. Prosecution counsel Fadeke Giwa called three witnesses and tendered several documents, while the defence called one witness.
In her judgment, Justice Dada held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found both defendants guilty. She sentenced them to three years imprisonment on the first count, one year on the second count of stealing, and ten years without the option of a fine on the third count of obtaining money by false pretence. The first defendant’s sentence was suspended until he is apprehended.
The prosecution had alleged that the pair conspired and dishonestly stole the property of the beneficiaries of the Estate of late Dr Moshood Babatunde Odemuyiwa, contrary to Section 285(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. They further alleged that the defendants sold the property known as Plot 19, Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Oyingbo, Lagos, for Sixteen Million Naira on the false representation that the first defendant was authorised to do so by the bona fide beneficiaries of the estate.
