A 74 year old Nigerian national who is a lawful permanent resident of Charlotte has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Western District of North Carolina. Michael Agah is charged with voting as a person who is not a citizen and with falsely claiming to be a United States citizen in order to vote.
The indictment states that he claimed citizenship on an authorisation to vote form and then cast a ballot in the federal election held on 5 November 2024. The United States Department of Justice announced the case on 29 October.
Agah is one of 18 individuals who are not citizens charged across North Carolina on the same day, and the only one named as Nigerian. The details were shared in a post on X by a US Attorney on the morning of Friday 30 October.
