Christopher Agbaje, a 53 year old Nigerian national, has been sentenced and ordered deported following a money laundering conviction in the United States. The outcome, reported around 27 October 2026, updates an earlier case in which a 2024 conviction and sentence were overturned on appeal.
Agbaje pleaded guilty on 2 September 2026 in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. The offence related to money laundering connected with aiding and abetting wire and mail fraud that targeted a law firm in North Dakota. The fraud involved nearly 190000 dollars.
The court sentenced him to the time he had already served, approximately three and a half years, and ordered restitution of about 190000 dollars. He was then turned over to immigration authorities for deportation to Nigeria.
The case marks a material development after the earlier conviction was set aside on appeal, leading to the fresh plea, sentencing and deportation order.
