U.S. forces have carried out a targeted operation against hardened Iranian missile positions along the country’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a statement released hours ago, CENTCOM confirmed that multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions were successfully employed against the sites. The targets housed Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles, which posed a direct threat to international shipping through the strategically vital waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, through which approximately one-fifth of global oil supplies pass. Iranian anti-ship missiles in coastal fortifications have long been viewed as a potential risk to commercial vessels and naval traffic in the region.
CENTCOM described the action as a precision strike aimed at neutralising the specific threat without providing further operational details, such as the exact location, aircraft involved, or any assessment of damage. The use of heavy deep-penetrator munitions — designed to burrow into fortified or underground targets before detonating — indicates the sites were well-protected bunkers or hardened facilities.
This latest strike forms part of a broader series of U.S. military actions in the region in recent weeks, including large-scale precision operations against Iranian naval mines, missile storage bunkers, and other military infrastructure. Earlier announcements from CENTCOM have detailed strikes on more than 90 targets on Kharg Island and the destruction of Iranian mine-laying vessels near the strait.
No immediate comment has been received from Iranian officials. The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with ongoing concerns over freedom of navigation and the security of global energy supplies.
