Lagos, 18 October 2026
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Adefolaseye Adebayo, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) intends to use its influence at federal level to prevent the NDC from appearing on the ballot paper for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
In a statement shared on her official X account, Adebayo claimed she had obtained information about a plan to rig the contest in the constituency by ensuring the NDC does not feature on the ballot. She said the approach had already been exposed and warned that it mirrored a previous incident.
“They did it during the last federal election for the House of Representatives in Surulere 1 with the Labour Party, when the person who was the Labour Party candidate colluded with them, and the Labour Party did not appear on the ballot paper,” she stated. “Nothing happened because the candidate was part of the game plan. They got away with it then, and now they want to repeat it again.”
Adebayo called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, to guarantee that the NDC appears on the ballot for the 2027 election in the constituency. She also urged the NDC’s national leadership and its Lagos State leadership to remain alert and treat the reported threat seriously.
Addressing the wider public, she appealed to Nigerians not to dismiss the matter, noting that a similar exclusion had previously occurred without consequences. “It has happened before, and they got away with it. We must not allow it to happen again,” she said.
The candidate added that she could not be bribed and would not remain silent. Issuing a direct warning, she stated: “Oga at the top, don’t try it like you did last time ooo!”
She concluded with a firm declaration that the situation was under scrutiny: “Let this serve as a strong warning: we are watching, we are alert, and we will not fold our arms while anyone attempts to undermine our democratic rights. NDC must be on the ballot paper in Surulere 1 House of Representatives in 2027.”
Adebayo, who also serves as South-West Coordinator of the OK Movement, made the allegations in a video statement. As of the time of publication, neither the APC nor INEC had issued a public response to the claims. The matter highlights ongoing concerns about ballot access and electoral integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
