FBI Operation Blackout Leads to Nine Arrests in Nigeria

FBI Director Kash Patel has announced the outcome of the latest phase of Operation Blackout, which targeted international cyber criminal networks operating in Nigeria. The action resulted in nine arrests, the seizure of 53 electronic devices, and the identification of 11 million dollars in funds that authorities may be able to freeze across several countries.

Patel described Operation Blackout as a campaign that takes the fight directly to networks stealing billions of dollars from Americans. He said the scam centres involved exploit innocent victims and steal their life savings. These groups work across international borders while believing they remain beyond the reach of law enforcement.

“They are wrong,” Patel stated. He thanked Nigerian law enforcement and partners in London for their outstanding cooperation in the operation.

Addressing those who target Americans from overseas, the FBI Director added that justice will find them. The announcement forms part of wider efforts by the FBI and international partners to disrupt overseas scam operations that cause significant financial harm.
