Daniel Olowookere of Blackley jailed for six years after admitting rape of two young girls

A man who moved to the United Kingdom from Nigeria has been sentenced to six years in prison at Manchester Crown Court after pleading guilty to the rape of two young girls.

Daniel Olowookere, of Blackley in Greater Manchester, was jailed following guilty pleas to the offences. Reports state that both victims were under the age of 12. Some accounts indicate the attacks occurred in separate incidents, one in 2018 and another in 2020.

According to reports of the hearing, Olowookere initially denied the allegations before later entering guilty pleas. Witnesses at the sentencing hearing described him as showing no remorse, noting that he shook his head as the judge passed sentence.

His defence team is reported to have raised his Nigerian cultural background as a mitigating factor. The judge, however, stressed that nothing could excuse the sexual abuse of children.

Investigators have warned that there may be further victims, given the time between the reported offences, and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Olowookere, who relocated from Nigeria to the UK, will serve the six year sentence in prison.
