Court Remands Abia AAC Governorship Candidate Doris Ogala at Ikoyi Correctional Centre

Doris Ogala, the African Action Congress governorship candidate for Abia State in the 2027 elections and a Nollywood actress, was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos on Wednesday after her arraignment on charges of cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

The Federal High Court in Lagos, sitting before Justice Akintayo Aluko, heard the case brought by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation. Prosecutors alleged that between September 2024 and March 2026 Ogala published nude and intimate photographs of Pastor Chris Okafor on social media without his consent, knowing the material would cause annoyance, embarrassment, emotional distress and injury to his reputation. Further counts accused her of disseminating videos, recordings and electronic messages containing false information calculated to bully, threaten, intimidate and harass the cleric, and of transmitting communications with intent to extort property by threatening to continue publishing intimate material unless he compensated her or purchased a house for her. The offences are said to contravene sections of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act 2024.

Ogala, aged 34, pleaded not guilty to all counts. The prosecutor asked the court to fix a trial date and to remand her pending determination of the charge, stating that her bail application had only been served that day and required time for a proper response. Defence counsel opposed remand, noting that bail is a matter for the court’s discretion and that Ogala is a governorship candidate who had undertaken to appear at future hearings. Justice Aluko ruled that the defence had not placed sufficient material before the court to justify release. He ordered accelerated hearing of the bail application and directed that she be remanded at a correctional centre in the meantime. The matter was adjourned to 30 October 2026 for the bail hearing.

Ogala later confirmed her situation to journalists, stating that she was on her way to prison. The development follows a prolonged public dispute between the actress and Pastor Okafor of Grace Nation International, also known as Liberation City. Ogala has previously alleged a romantic relationship dating back several years, a broken promise of marriage and financial claims, while the cleric’s representatives have treated her online posts as harassment and attempted extortion. She was arrested in connection with the same matter in December 2025 and later released. A civil injunction earlier restricted further publication of certain material relating to the pastor.
