US President Donald Trump has said the United States and Iran have held “very good and productive” discussions over the past two days aimed at securing a permanent end to hostilities in the Middle East.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Mr Trump wrote: “I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”
He added that, based on the “tenor and tone” of the talks – which he described as “in depth, detailed, and constructive” – he had ordered the Department of Defense to postpone planned military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure.
