Shettima arrives in Addis Ababa for Nigeria–Ethiopia nutrition leadership exchange

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as head of the Nigerian delegation to the Nigeria Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Forum, which runs from 7 to 9 October 2026.

On arrival, he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Nasir Aminu. Also present were the Minister in the Mission, Mr Nura Bappah Aliyu; the Senior Counsellor, Mr Onovo Emmanuel Isaac; the Defence Attaché, Wing Commander Gabriel Diepiriye Batubo; and senior Ethiopian government officials.

The Vice President was invited to the Pearl Exchange Forum by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is leading the country’s multisectoral effort to improve nutrition. The engagement is the inaugural Nigeria Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, a government to government peer exchange focused on accelerating nutrition delivery.

As head of the delegation, Shettima will take part in discussions intended to help officials share experience on building a coordinated compact among federal, state and local authorities. The Nigerian team is also expected to examine how a government led plan can strengthen nutrition delivery, and to tour facilities linked to food production and nutrition programmes.

The scheduled visits include a wheat farm and a banana plantation in Oromia, the Bounty of the Basket Training Centre and selected households in Mojo, and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.

Shettima is accompanied by the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, and the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi. Other members of the delegation are the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Zubaida Umar Abubakar.

The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja at the end of the engagement.
