2 July 2025 – Senator David A. B. Mark, the former President of the 6th and 7th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement was made in a letter dated 27 June 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 1, Otukpo, Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State.
In his resignation notice, Senator Mark expressed his decision to end his membership of the party with immediate effect. Reflecting on his long association with the PDP, he noted that over the years, he and other stakeholders had deeply committed to the party’s ideals. Following the party’s loss in the 2015 presidential election, Mark pledged to remain a steadfast supporter. His efforts, alongside others, helped rebuild and restore the PDP’s national relevance, making it a preferred choice for many Nigerians once again.
However, Mark highlighted recent events that have marked a deepening division and persistent leadership crisis within the party, reducing it to a shadow of its former self and subjecting it to public ridicule. Citing these irreconcilable differences, he announced his intention to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria as part of a collective effort to rescue the nation and preserve its hard-earned democracy.
