Lagos, Nigeria – 5 November 2025
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has extended his deepest condolences to Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu following the passing of his mother, Hajiya Halima Suleiman Dabo.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) published earlier today, Obi addressed Mu’azu as his “dear elder brother” and praised the late Hajiya Halima as “a woman of exemplary moral standards, compassion, and grace whose legacy will forever inspire.” He concluded with a prayer: “May Allah grant her Al-Jannat al-Firdaus and bestow upon you and your family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
The post, which included photographs apparently from a condolence visit, has garnered significant engagement, with over 2,000 likes and hundreds of reposts within hours. Reactions on X have been mixed, with some users offering supportive messages such as “Well said, sir. May her soul rest in peace,” while others criticised Obi’s demeanour in the accompanying images, accusing him of appearing too light-hearted during a time of mourning.
Hajiya Halima’s death was reported earlier this week, prompting an outpouring of sympathies from prominent Nigerian figures. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led a delegation to visit the Mu’azu family in person, expressing his sorrow over the loss of “his beloved mother, Hajiya Halima Suleman.” Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed also conveyed his condolences, describing the passing as a “colossal loss.” Additionally, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate in 2023, shared his sympathies on social media, extending them on behalf of his family and associates.
