Abuja, 2 July 2027 – Prominent Nigerian opposition figures gathered today at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for a high-profile media conference, signalling the formation of a formidable coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, attended by a diverse array of political heavyweights, included Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart. Other notable attendees were former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Senate President David Mark, who is expected to lead the coalition’s efforts.
Also present were Dino Melaye, a former Minister of Youth and Sports; Solomon Dalong; Dele Momodu; Senator Gabriel Suswam; Senator Ireti Kingibe of the LP; Emeka Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), a former Chief of Air Staff. Several other politicians from the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and LP were also in attendance, underscoring the coalition’s broad-based support.
The ADC has been adopted as the coalition’s platform to unseat the APC, with David Mark, who recently resigned his membership from the PDP, appointed to spearhead the initiative. The conference is expected to outline the coalition’s strategy and rally support for a unified opposition front.
