Enugu Governor Highlights Robust Security Measures in Meeting with AIG

Enugu, Nigeria – Governor Peter Mbah has reaffirmed Enugu’s status as one of Nigeria’s safest states, following a productive meeting with Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Abayomi Oladipo, who oversees Zone 13, at the Lion Building. The engagement underscored the state’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment, vital for its ambitious economic goals.

Mbah highlighted Enugu’s strategic investments in security, driven by the need to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion and establish it as a hub for investment, tourism, and business. “From the outset, we recognised that security is paramount to achieving our vision,” Mbah stated. Key initiatives include the installation of AI-powered surveillance cameras across the state, the establishment of a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, and the deployment of over 150 security vehicles under the Distress Response Squad. These measures, coupled with strengthened collaboration with security agencies, have enhanced Enugu’s capacity to prevent and swiftly resolve crimes.

Addressing misinformation, Mbah dismissed false narratives propagated on social media, including recycled videos and fabricated stories misattributed to Enugu. “Despite the propaganda, Enugu remains, unarguably, the safest city in Nigeria,” he asserted. He urged the public to look beyond such distortions and recognise the state’s security achievements.

The governor also emphasised ongoing efforts to hold security agencies accountable, ensuring no crime goes unpunished. He expressed gratitude to AIG Oladipo for his visit and commendation of Enugu’s progress in safeguarding lives and property. Mbah further praised the synergy between the Commissioners of Police in Enugu and Anambra, reinforcing regional cooperation.
