The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N114 million recovered from Obumneme Bright to a microfinance bank. The Acting Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, presented the draft on Thursday 29 October 2026 to Samuel Ikechukwu, a senior official of the bank.
Ikechukwu had petitioned the EFCC in August 2024 after one of the bank’s customers’ accounts was fraudulently hacked and funds were transferred out. Investigators traced the money to several suspects, including Obumneme Bright, who was arrested. The Commission recovered N114 million from him and is still pursuing other individuals connected to the case.
The funds have now been returned to the microfinance bank on whose behalf the recovery was made. The EFCC continues its investigation into the remaining suspects.
