Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over the alleged forgery of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.
In the suit lodged at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, Atiku is seeking an order disqualifying Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
The former vice-president is challenging the authenticity of the NYSC document submitted by Tinubu, arguing that it constitutes forgery and therefore renders the president ineligible to stand for re-election under Nigerian electoral law.
The case adds a fresh legal dimension to the long-running controversy surrounding Tinubu’s educational and service records, which first gained prominence during the 2023 presidential campaign.
Atiku’s legal team is expected to present evidence and call witnesses to support the claim of forgery. The president’s lawyers are yet to formally respond to the suit.
The Federal High Court in Abuja will determine the next steps in the proceedings, including any applications for interim orders or accelerated hearing.
