The All Progressives Congress has launched a scathing attack on former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as a loafer who is unable to earn a living outside public office.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on October 4 2026 and signed by its National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party responded to recent comments attributed to Amaechi concerning his family circumstances.
The statement opened with prayers for the repose of the soul of Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, the mother of the former governor, and for the health of Amaechi himself.
The party noted that Amaechi, a former two term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two term Governor, two term Minister of Transportation, former presidential aspirant and currently vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, had claimed he could not afford medications for his mother’s treatment.
The APC said it wished that employers of labour in his hometown of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State would find him suitable for employment that would enable him to provide for his family in retirement.
The party referred to what it called Amaechi’s uncanny confessions, stating that he had previously claimed he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him, and had now stated that his inability to afford medication led to his mother’s death at 89.
For four decades, the statement continued, Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office and was never hungry, but just three years out of office he had become destitute and unable to fend for himself and his loved ones.
The APC argued that if Amaechi was not struggling with some kind of Peter Pan syndrome, then he must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible for his inability to be productive and earn a living outside the patronage of public office.
The party further claimed that Amaechi was now asking Nigerians to make him vice president in 2027 so he could continue leeching on the public treasury and maintain what it described as a predatory lifestyle.
The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi, the statement added.
It concluded that no one could speak more to Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of vice president than Amaechi himself.
