Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have conducted a successful strike on the Omsk oil refinery in Russia, nearly 2,500 kilometres from Ukraine’s border, according to Ukrainian military sources.
The attack targeted one of Russia’s largest and most significant refining facilities, which until now had remained untouched among the country’s 11 largest gasoline producers. The Omsk refinery, with an annual capacity exceeding 21 million tons, is Russia’s most powerful and has been supplying fuel to Russian occupation forces in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence and Special Operations Forces confirmed that a hit was recorded at the site, with reports of a fire. Damage assessment is ongoing.
Preliminary information indicates that the strike damaged the ELOU-AVT-11 primary crude distillation unit, which has an annual capacity of 8.4 million tons.
The operation highlights Ukraine’s growing ability to reach deep into Russian territory to disrupt critical infrastructure supporting Moscow’s war effort. Omsk, located in southwestern Siberia, is a key node in Russia’s oil processing and distribution network.
No immediate comment has been received from Russian authorities on the extent of the damage or any casualties.
