Abuja, 13 August 2025 – President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Thursday, 14 August, for an official two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In Japan, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from 20 to 22 August. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business environment, and fostering sustainable societies for human security, peace, and stability. TICAD, initiated by the Japanese government in 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is a triennial event alternating between Japan and Africa. The last conference was held in Tunisia in August 2022.

During the visit, President Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria to strengthen economic ties.

Following TICAD9, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from 24 to 25 August, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The visit will include a bilateral meeting with President Lula and participation in a business forum with Brazilian investors. Accompanied by key ministers and senior officials, President Tinubu’s delegation will explore opportunities to deepen cooperation and sign agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the details of the visit, highlighting its significance in advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic relations with both nations.
