Abuja, 30 April 2026 – Nigeria’s Supreme Court has delivered its judgments in the appeals concerning leadership disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In the PDP case, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction in a split 3-2 decision. It ruled that the appeal lacked merit and explicitly invalidated the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15–16 November 2025.
The judgment upholds the earlier decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had declared the Ibadan convention unlawful, null and void, and barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising its outcomes, including the purported election of national officers.
Consequently, the PDP’s Ibadan convention has now been definitively nullified by the Supreme Court. The recognised leadership of the party reverts to the duly elected or caretaker structures affirmed by the lower courts, led by figures such as Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
