President Tinubu Chairs Emergency Security Meeting as Military Operations Intensify in Troubled Regions

Abuja, 23 November 2025 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tonight convened an extended high-level security meeting at the State House with the nation’s top defence and intelligence chiefs, as fresh reports of unrest in parts of the country continue to reach the presidency.

Present at the marathon session were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi; and other senior commanders.

In a statement released shortly after midnight by the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu said he is receiving continuous briefings on the evolving situation and has issued firm directives to the security services.

“I am currently in an extended security meeting with heads of our defence and intelligence apparatus… We are reviewing the latest reports and taking decisive actions to stabilise the affected areas and protect our citizens,” the President said.

“I have directed our security services to move with speed, precision, and absolute resolve.”

Reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on insecurity, President Tinubu declared: “As President, I am fully committed to the security of all Nigerians. Those who threaten the peace and security of our nation will face the full weight of the law.”

The statement concluded with a message of resolve: “Nigeria will prevail.”

Presidential spokesmen declined to provide further details on the specific regions under discussion or the nature of the “decisive actions” ordered, citing operational security. However, sources within the Villa indicated that the meeting focused on coordinating ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism efforts as well as responses to recent incidents of banditry and communal violence.

The emergency session comes amid heightened military deployments in parts of the North-West and North-Central zones in recent weeks, with the Nigerian Army and Air Force stepping up aerial and ground operations against armed groups.
