Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Petitions for Investigation into Senate President Godswill Akpabio

Lagos, Nigeria – 19 May 2025
Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a petition calling for an investigation into Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of orchestrating a campaign of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and inciting hatred against her. The petition, submitted by the law firm West-Idahosa, SAN & Co., was formally received by the Federal Ministry of Justice on 19 May 2025, as confirmed by an official stamp on the document.

Addressed to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, the petition alleges that Akpabio has used proxies to spread false accusations through public networks, aiming to tarnish the senator’s reputation and threaten her safety. Representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that the Senate President’s actions are part of a broader conspiracy that includes an attempted assassination plot against her.
The law firm has presented what they describe as “incontrovertible evidence” gathered from public broadcasts, witness testimonies, media reports, and expert analyses. They assert that Akpabio’s alleged campaign has been deliberate, using resources at his disposal to incite public hatred against the senator.

“We respectfully urge your service to painstakingly investigate the contents of this petition and ensure that justice is expeditiously dispensed to all who may be found wanting, regardless of their status in Nigerian society,” the petition states. It is signed by Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, SAN, Ph.D., MNIM, on behalf of the firm.

The petition follows a history of tension between the two senators. Earlier this year, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim that led to her six-month suspension from the Senate after the ethics committee dismissed her petition on procedural grounds. Akpabio has consistently denied those allegations, and the Senate’s handling of the matter drew criticism from women’s rights activists.
