Nyesom Wike Defends N1.78 Trillion FCT Budget for 2025 at National Assembly

Abuja, 22 May 2025 – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, presented and defended the FCT’s proposed N1.78 trillion statutory budget for 2025 before the National Assembly on Wednesday. In detailed submissions to the Senate and House of Representatives committees, Wike outlined the budget’s allocations, with a strong emphasis on capital expenditure to drive infrastructure development in the nation’s capital.

According to Wike, 72.30% of the budget, equating to N1,289,690,124,776, is allocated to capital projects, while the remaining 27.70%, or N494,133,583,616, will cover recurrent expenditure. The capital budget prioritises the completion of critical ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and urban development across the FCT.

Key projects highlighted include the completion of roads B6 and B12, the full-scope development of Arterial Road N20, and the provision of engineering infrastructure in Guzape, Wuye, and Maitama II Districts. Other initiatives involve extending the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX), developing FCT Highway 105 (Kuje Road), constructing the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and rehabilitating Old Keffi Road. Additionally, the budget covers the construction of access roads to bus terminals, upgrading the Ushafa War College/Army Check Point Road, building Pai-Gomani Road, and dualising the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road.

Wike underscored the importance of these projects in enhancing the FCT’s infrastructure and fostering sustainable growth. The proposed budget reflects the administration’s commitment to completing strategic projects that will improve the quality of life for residents and position Abuja as a modern capital city.
The National Assembly committees are expected to review the proposal before final approval, with stakeholders hopeful that the budget will address longstanding infrastructure challenges in the FCT.
