Senator Ireti Kingibe Defends Support for FCT Budget in Viral Video
Abuja, 22 May 2025 – Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has addressed the public following a viral video in which she expressed support for the FCT budget proposed by the Honourable Minister of the FCT. The video sparked widespread discussion, prompting the senator to clarify her stance in a detailed statement.
In her statement, Senator Kingibe, known for her forthright approach, emphasised her commitment to truth and the well-being of her constituents over political expediency. “I am one senator who stands and says the truth, no matter what,” she said, underscoring her guiding principle of prioritising what is right for the people.
The senator explained that her support for the FCT budget stems from its potential to tackle longstanding issues affecting residents of the capital. She highlighted the budget’s allocation, with under 30% for personnel and overheads and over 70% dedicated to capital projects, describing it as a “good budget if well implemented.” Kingibe expressed hope that the funds would address critical needs, including better living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs), empowerment opportunities for youth, and improvements in healthcare and education systems.
“These are not political talking points. They are the realities many of our people live with every day,” she stated, urging a focus on collective progress over partisan differences.
Kingibe also reaffirmed her commitment to holding authorities accountable, promising to demand transparency in the budget’s implementation to ensure it delivers tangible benefits to FCT residents. “Governance is not about personal interests. It is about service,” she concluded.
