NNPC and Dangote Strengthen Partnership for Nigeria’s Energy Future

Abuja, 9 May 2025 – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP) have reaffirmed their commitment to a strategic partnership focused on bolstering Nigeria’s energy security and driving national prosperity through healthy competition.

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by Mr. Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, to Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Thursday. Accompanied by their respective senior management teams, both leaders emphasised collaboration over competition, highlighting their shared vision for Nigeria’s economic growth.

“There is no competition between us,” Mr. Dangote stated. “We are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of co-operation between the two organisations.” He congratulated Mr. Ojulari and his team on their recent appointments, expressing confidence in their ability to tackle the significant responsibilities ahead. “The GCEO is shouldering a monumental task, but with the capable hands at his disposal in NNPC, the task is surmountable,” Dangote added.

In response, Mr. Ojulari underscored NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership grounded in productive collaboration. He praised the calibre of NNPC’s workforce, describing them as “dedicated, highly skilled, and hardworking professionals” focused on delivering value for Nigeria. “We are ready to build a legacy of national prosperity through innovation and shared purpose,” Ojulari said, noting that NNPC would sustain its collaboration with the Dangote Group, particularly where it offers commercial advantages for the nation.

Both executives agreed to serve as relationship managers for their organisations, fostering sustained collaboration and healthy competition to unlock limitless opportunities. The partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring Nigeria’s energy security while advancing shared economic goals.

Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, described the meeting as a significant step towards deepening ties between the two organisations, with a shared commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
