Obidient Movement Denies Peter Obi Coalition Rumours Ahead of 2027 Election

Abuja, 19 May 2025 – The Obidient Movement has firmly dismissed speculations of a coalition involving its principal, Peter Obi, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the 2027 Nigerian general election approaches. In a statement released today, the group clarified that no such alliance is in place, labelling the rumours as baseless and misleading.

The press release, issued by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, addressed the growing public discourse surrounding a potential partnership. "Even though the publication is imaginary to the author, we find it appropriate to react, in view of possible far-reaching misconception, in the public space," the statement read. The movement reiterated its commitment to maintaining open and honest engagement with stakeholders, asserting, "There is no truth or basis to the reports whatsoever."

The Obidient Movement, a grassroots organisation supporting Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, further outlined its core mission. The group reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for a united Nigeria, free from corruption, poverty, poor healthcare, and the myriad challenges plaguing the nation. "Mr Peter Obi has maintained that his objective and his involvement in a coalition is to provide a united front against bad governance, corruption, hunger, poverty, poor healthcare, out of school children and the myriad of other problems daily afflicting the people of Nigeria," the statement noted.

The movement also called for a political landscape that prioritises the welfare of Nigerians over personal gain. "We want politics that is progressive, standing firmly with the people and serving great people of Nigeria, and not politics just for the sake of grabbing power," the release added. It concluded by affirming Peter Obi’s continued allegiance to the Labour Party, dispelling any notions of a shift in his political alignment.
