Lagos, 25 September 2026
The Lagos State Police Command has identified the inspector who appeared in a viral video and has begun disciplinary action against him.
The officer is Inspector Osumah Frank. The Command said he made careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks while travelling on public transport.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said the comments were made in a personal capacity. It said they do not represent the position, views or official stance of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
Reports of the footage say the officer, who was in uniform, made remarks about Igbo people and spoke about the political ambitions of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi. He also referred to President Bola Tinubu and former vice president Atiku Abubakar. He was heard suggesting that police officers could take money to hinder a political candidate.
The Command said it has begun appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, said all personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times. He said wearing the police uniform carries a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force. The Command, he added, will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police.
The Command said it remains committed to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
The statement was issued from the Lagos State Command in Ikeja.
