The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has released the timetable and schedule of activities for bye-elections set to take place on Saturday, 16th August 2025. The elections will cover 6 Senatorial Districts, 5 Federal Constituencies, and 9 State Constituencies across various states, triggered by reasons including death and resignation of previous representatives.
The election process will commence with the Notice of Election on 16th July 2025, followed by party primaries from 17th to 21st July 2025. Candidate nominations will be accepted online from 9:00 AM on 22nd July to 6:00 PM on 26th July 2025. The final list of nominated candidates will be published on 1st August 2025, with campaigning starting on 2nd August and concluding on 14th August 2025. The submission of polling agent names is due by 4th August 2025.
Affected constituencies include Ganye SC in Adamawa, Anambra South SD and Onitsha North I SC in Anambra, Edo Central SD and Ovia North East/Ovia South West FC in Edo, among others. A total of 32 Local Government Areas, 356 Registration Areas, and 6,987 Polling Units will be involved, serving 3,553,659 registered voters.
INEC is encouraging political parties and candidates to adhere to the outlined schedule and has made nomination forms available at its headquarters.
