The son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating his father’s constitutional rights by preventing a doctor from seeing him and turning away his wife when she brought his evening meal.
In a press release issued on 15 May 2026, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the Member of the House of Representatives for Kaduna North Federal Constituency and Chairman of the Committee on Banking Regulations, described two incidents that occurred that day as “an outright assault on the rule of law”.
According to the statement, at about 3pm the former governor’s personal doctor visited the ICPC to discuss the results of recent medical tests. Officials at the agency refused to allow the doctor access, insisting that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai said this directly contravenes a court order granting his father unrestricted access to his doctors.
Later the same evening, at around 7pm, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s wife, Aunty Aichatou, arrived with his evening meal in line with her usual practice. She was turned away by ICPC personnel, who stated they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm.
Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai condemned both actions, saying: “These acts are an outright assault on the rule of law and a clear violation of our father’s constitutional and human rights. No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC.”
He added that the family would “no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol” and demanded that the ICPC fully respect all of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s constitutional rights and “abide by the very laws it claims to enforce”.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody. As of this morning, the commission had not issued a public response to the allegations.
