Allies Issue Joint Statement Condemning Iran Following UK Attribution of RAF Fairford Incident

LONDON, 12 October 2026. The governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and 26 other countries have released a joint statement condemning Iran’s use of violent attacks and hybrid activities, while recognising the United Kingdom’s attribution of Iranian involvement in the incident at RAF Fairford on 27 September.

The statement was issued by the Office of the Spokesman of the United States Department of State. It was endorsed by Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The signatories said they “condemn in the strongest terms Iran’s use of violent attacks, including the acts of lethal plotting, arson, sabotage, cyber attacks, and other hybrid activities against us and our partners.”

They recognised the United Kingdom’s assessment of the RAF Fairford incident. The United Kingdom has concluded that the event demonstrates the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ continued willingness to project hostile activity beyond its borders through covert networks and proxy actors.

The statement notes that the incident follows a recent campaign of attacks across Europe targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists and United States interests. Those attacks were claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI).

The governments stated that any attempt by Iran to threaten, silence, intimidate, harass, harm or coerce people on their territories through proxies or any other means is unacceptable. Anyone who conducts hostile activities on behalf of Iran, or any other state, should expect action to identify, investigate, disrupt and prosecute those acts.

The statement concluded: “Iran should be in no doubt that we are united and remain committed to safeguarding our sovereignty and strengthening our international coordination, bolstering our national resilience, protecting our communities, and ensuring that those responsible are held to account.”

The joint declaration coincides with remarks by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to Parliament on the same day. He confirmed the United Kingdom’s assessment that the RAF Fairford incident was highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Gloucestershire airbase has been used by United States bombers during operations against Iran.

Five men were arrested in the early hours of 27 September near the base after reports of suspicious vehicles. They were later released on police bail. No improvised explosive devices were found, although a quantity of petrol was recovered. Additional arrests have been made and the investigation continues. Iran has previously rejected suggestions of involvement.
