The Nigeria Police Force has brought Adeniyi Mathew Adeyemi, the detained alleged director-general of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, before the Federal High Court in Abuja for arraignment on criminal charges.
Adeyemi, dressed in an all-white outfit with matching white shoes, was escorted to court by operatives of the Force Headquarters Cybercrime Centre. He was taken into the courtroom under tight security by armed plain-clothes officers and was listed for arraignment on Wednesday before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar.
The Federal Government, acting through the police, is prosecuting him on a charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025. The allegations include forgery and impersonation.
Adeyemi was arrested in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and had remained in police custody pending his appearance in court. Before the hearing he was held under heavy guard on the fourth floor of the court building.
When the matter was called, the eight-count charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty. Justice Umar then remanded him in Kuje Correctional Centre and fixed 12 October for the hearing of his bail application and further proceedings. Two other alleged co-defendants named only as Femi and Anu remain at large.
The prosecution alleges that Adeyemi and others forged official documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter said to have been issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, together with State House letterheads and papers used to present the council as a genuine federal agency. The Presidency has said the council was never established and that Adeyemi was not authorised to lead it.
Adeyemi has denied the allegations. His lawyers have indicated that a bail application is already before the court.
