Air Peace Flight Veers Off Runway in Port Harcourt, No Injuries Reported

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – 13 July 2025 – An Air Peace aircraft operating flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt experienced a runway excursion shortly after landing at Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning, the airline has confirmed. All passengers disembarked safely with no injuries or damage to the plane.

The incident occurred after what the airline described as a safe landing. In a statement issued by spokesperson Osifo-Whiskey Efe, Air Peace said the aircraft “veered slightly off the runway without any damage.” Passengers were able to exit the plane calmly, and there were no reports of harm to anyone on board.

“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the statement added.

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-300, according to aviation reports. Eyewitness accounts and social media posts from the scene showed the plane partially off the tarmac, with emergency services responding promptly. Videos circulating online depicted the aircraft in grassy terrain adjacent to the runway, but operations at the airport appeared to resume without major disruption.

The exact cause of the excursion remains unclear at this stage, with preliminary indications suggesting it may have been a minor veer during taxiing post-landing. Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s leading domestic carriers, has not provided further details on potential factors such as weather or mechanical issues. Aviation authorities, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), are expected to launch an investigation into the event.

This incident comes amid a series of minor safety occurrences in Nigerian aviation, though experts note that runway excursions are not uncommon globally and often result in no harm. Air Peace has maintained its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification, underscoring its adherence to international safety protocols.

Passengers affected by the disruption were reportedly assisted by airline staff, and alternative arrangements were made for their onward journeys. The airline’s swift response and transparency have been praised on social media, with many users expressing relief at the lack of casualties.

Air Peace operates a fleet of modern aircraft and serves key routes across Nigeria and internationally. The company urged the public to continue trusting in its safety measures, emphasising that such events are handled with the utmost priority for passenger well-being.
