Abuja Court Overturns Senator Natasha’s Suspension, Orders Immediate Recall

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the six-month suspension of Kogi State Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan unconstitutional and ordered her immediate reinstatement to the Senate.

In a judgement delivered on Friday, Justice Binta Fatima Nyako ruled that the Senate’s decision to suspend Akpoti-Uduaghan was “unlawful” and breached the Nigerian Constitution. The court found that the suspension deprived the senator’s constituents of adequate representation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had challenged her suspension through a lawsuit, arguing that it violated constitutional provisions. Justice Nyako agreed, stating that the Senate’s action lacked legal grounding.

The court has mandated the Senate to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan without delay, enabling her to resume her duties as the representative of Kogi State in the upper chamber.

This ruling marks a significant victory for the senator, reinforcing the judiciary’s role in upholding constitutional governance.
