The 24 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, have been rescued, security sources have confirmed.
The girls were freed on Tuesday, according to information provided to Daily Justice by sources within the security services who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The abduction occurred earlier this month when armed bandits stormed the school premises in the north-western state, seizing the students in a raid that once again highlighted the ongoing insecurity plaguing Nigeria’s educational institutions.
Details of the rescue operation remain sparse, with authorities yet to issue an official statement on how the girls were recovered or whether any ransoms were paid. It is also unclear if the abductors were apprehended during the operation.
The release of the 24 schoolgirls brings relief to their families and the wider Kebbi State community, which had been gripped by anxiety since the incident.
Further updates are expected as official confirmation from the Kebbi State Government and security agencies is awaited.
