PDP Slams Tinubu Over Benue Massacre, Demands Urgent Action

Abuja, 16 June 2025 – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing condemnation of the recent massacre in Benue State, where over 200 Nigerians, including children, were brutally killed by terrorists and bandits. The opposition party has pointed the finger squarely at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his All Progressives Congress (APC) government of being “unserious” and “unconcerned” in the face of escalating violence.

In a strongly worded press statement, the PDP described the Benue killings as a “horrifying chapter” in Nigeria’s history under the APC’s watch. The party expressed alarm at reports of coordinated daily attacks that saw assailants overrun communities, murdering defenceless citizens without resistance. The PDP claimed the Tinubu-led administration has shown a “lethargic approach to security” and alleged complicity by the APC, citing its failure to decisively confront the crisis amid reported ties to terrorist interests.

“It is traumatic to watch the gory pictures and videos of Nigerians murdered in cold blood while President Tinubu and the APC carry on as if all is well,” said Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary. He accused the President of remaining “aloof” and passing the buck through “lame press statements” instead of taking urgent action to protect citizens.

The PDP charged that the Tinubu administration has abandoned its primary responsibility to ensure the security and wellbeing of Nigerians, instead focusing on “politics and an illusive re-election in 2027.” The party claimed that over 600,000 Nigerians have been killed in the past two years due to the government’s inaction, leaving the nation at the mercy of outlaws.

In a direct challenge, the PDP called on President Tinubu to demonstrate leadership as Commander-in-Chief by immediately visiting the affected communities in Benue State and taking decisive steps to end the killings. The party also commended Nigeria’s security forces for their gallantry and sacrifices despite operating under what it called an “incompetent” leadership.

The PDP extended its condolences to the families of the victims in Benue and other parts of the country, urging security agencies to remain steadfast in their efforts to protect lives and property.

The statement has intensified pressure on the Tinubu administration, which continues to face criticism over its handling of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.
