Obi Pledges to Honour Coalition Agreement for President

Abuja, Nigeria – 29 June 2025

His Excellency Peter Obi, a prominent Nigerian politician and former presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and respect for Nigeria’s political zoning and north-south dichotomy. Speaking in an X Space discussion today, Obi outlined his stance on potential coalitions and his approach to leadership if elected president in 2027.

Obi emphasised that he would honour any agreement made within a political coalition, stating, “If the agreement in a coalition is two years, I will serve for two years. I will honour any agreement and will not stay a day longer.” He further clarified that he would not seek re-election in 2031 if such a term limit is agreed upon, underscoring that his integrity is paramount.

However, Obi was unequivocal about his priorities, warning that he would not participate in any coalition focused solely on capturing power. “If the coalition is about capturing power and not about solving the problem of Nigerians, count me out,” he declared, stressing his dedication to addressing the challenges facing the Nigerian populace.

Obi’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about political alliances and zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections. His commitment to respecting agreements and prioritising governance over personal ambition has sparked reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape, with many commending his principled stance.
