Lagos, Nigeria – On Thursday, 19 June 2025, Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, sentenced Olukeye Adedayo to 76 years in prison for multiple charges related to internet fraud, including the distribution of child pornography, fraudulent impersonation, and sextortion. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted the case, which involved illicit activities amounting to N721,500 (£370).
Adedayo, known online as “hrm87,” “charlotte 708,” and “harlilott_716,” was arrested after creating an Instagram group named “Expose Janjua Robin Nudes” to distribute child pornography. The EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 charged him with 18 counts in 2024, to which he pleaded not guilty, leading to a full trial that began on 5 June 2024.
During the trial, prosecution counsel Bilikisu Buhari presented compelling evidence and two key witnesses: Wahid Hamidi, a Police Sergeant from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Serious Crime Unit, and Saidu Yakubu, an EFCC operative. Their testimonies, alongside documented evidence, substantiated the charges against Adedayo.
Justice Owoeye delivered the verdict, finding Adedayo guilty on all 18 counts. The sentencing included two years for each of counts one to four, covering procurement and distribution of child pornography and cyberstalking; four years for each of counts five to 14, related to retaining and disguising proceeds of fraud; and seven years for each of counts 15 to 18, for obtaining property under false pretences. All sentences are to run concurrently, with no option for a fine.
The case highlights the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in Nigeria, with international cooperation playing a crucial role in securing convictions for serious offences. Adedayo’s conviction underscores the judiciary’s commitment to addressing digital crimes that exploit vulnerable individuals and undermine public trust.
