Nigeria Invites Gambia to West Africa Economic Summit

Banjul, Gambia – Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, met with Gambian President Adama Barrow at the Presidential Villa in Banjul on Saturday to extend a special invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), scheduled for 20-21 June 2025 in Abuja.

The Nigerian delegation received a warm welcome in Gambia, with Odumegwu-Ojukwu expressing delight at returning to a country that holds fond memories for her. The visit also provided an opportunity to reconnect with old friends.

During the meeting, President Barrow praised the summit as a vital initiative, particularly given the region’s economic and social challenges. He commended Nigeria’s leadership in fostering regional cooperation and dialogue.

The WAES aims to bring together West African leaders to address pressing issues, promote economic integration, and strengthen collaboration across the region. Nigeria’s invitation underscores its commitment to driving progress and unity in West Africa.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s visit highlights the deepening ties between Nigeria and Gambia, with both nations poised to collaborate closely at the upcoming summit.
