Abuja, 14 June 2025 – The Federal Republic of Nigeria has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran, which has triggered a dangerous escalation of hostilities between the two nations. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed grave concern over the aerial exchanges across both territories and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The statement, signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry, highlighted the severe risks posed by the ongoing conflict. Nigeria warned that continued retaliation not only endangers civilian lives but also threatens to plunge the broader Middle East into further instability, with potential repercussions for international security and economic development.
Nigeria urged all parties to prioritise peaceful coexistence and multilateral diplomacy over aggression and confrontation. The government called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to intensify efforts towards immediate de-escalation and to provide a platform for constructive negotiation.
Emphasising that military action is not a substitute for dialogue, Nigeria reiterated its commitment to supporting all genuine efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting peace in the region. The country stands ready to back adherence to international law and foster diplomatic resolutions.
This stance underscores Nigeria’s long-standing advocacy for global peace and stability, as the nation continues to play a proactive role in international peacekeeping efforts.
