Senator Kingibe Pledges Support for Youth-Driven Electoral Reform
Abuja, 11 May 2025 – Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has vowed to amplify the voices of Nigerian youths pushing for urgent electoral reforms under the #FIXINEC #ELECTORALREFORM movement. The pledge follows a high-profile meeting with youth leader Peter Randy and his team, which the senator prioritised by suspending all other engagements to underscore her commitment to the cause.
The “fantastic” and productive dialogue saw Senator Kingibe receive a petition described as a “strong and courageous” reflection of demands for systemic electoral change. As a member of the Senate Electoral Reform Committee, she assured Nigerians that the petition would be given the attention it deserves. “I am fully committed to ensuring these reforms are addressed with the urgency they demand,” she stated, promising to work diligently to advance the agenda.
However, Senator Kingibe’s renewed focus on youth engagement comes against a backdrop of criticism. In the past, she has faced accusations of aligning with policies outside the Labour Party’s platform, raising concerns among some supporters about her political consistency. Additionally, critics have pointed to her acceptance of substantial largesse, including vehicles and other perks, which have sparked debates about her priorities as a public servant.
Despite these controversies, Senator Kingibe is now positioning herself as a champion for transparency and reform. She committed to providing regular updates on the electoral reform process through her verified social media platforms, stating, “It is important to keep you informed every step of the way, so that together, we remain engaged and united in purpose.”
Calling for collective effort, she remarked, “One tree does not make a forest,” urging Nigerians to stand with her in the pursuit of meaningful change. Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in her, she pledged to serve with “dedication, transparency, and unwavering commitment.”
