3 May 2025 – Dr Sandra C Duru has launched a scathing rebuttal against what she describes as “false allegations” levelled by Senator Natasha Akpoti against Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing Akpoti of orchestrating a campaign of misinformation to manipulate public sentiment.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr Duru also criticised former public servant Oby Ezekwesili for endorsing Akpoti’s claims, labelling Ezekwesili’s support as “emotive propaganda” that undermines the integrity of Nigeria’s legal system. Duru accused Ezekwesili of attempting to derail an ongoing legislative probe into Akpoti’s allegations through “intellectually dishonest” activism.

“Support for justice must be rooted in truth,” Duru stated, dismissing Akpoti’s claims as a “weaponization of gender narratives” lacking admissible evidence. She argued that Ezekwesili’s intervention, which included public memos and social media campaigns, was an attempt to obstruct due process under the guise of defending justice.

Duru’s statement highlighted that the investigative committee probing Akpoti’s allegations has been adjourned indefinitely, a development Akpoti reportedly celebrated. However, Duru warned that “no form of orchestrated interference or misplaced loyalty” should be allowed to disrupt a lawful process grounded in evidence.

“Justice is not a gendered performance,” Duru declared. “It is a matter of fact, law, and conscience.”
