Nigeria Police Rescue 12 Trafficked Children and Seize Arms in Major Operations

Abuja, 2 June 2025 – The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, rescuing 12 trafficked children in Abia State and intercepting a cache of illegal arms in Kogi State, according to a press release issued on Monday.

In Abia State, operatives from the state police command, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects, Blessing Emebo, 49, and Sunday Emebo, 42, for running an unregistered and illegal motherless babies’ home at their residence on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba. The police discovered 12 children, aged between six months and 14 years, housed at the premises. Preliminary investigations indicate the children were sourced from villages in the Arochukwu area. The rescued minors have been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care, while the suspects are under interrogation and will face charges upon completion of investigations.

In a separate operation, Kogi State Police Command officers intercepted a green Sharon vehicle that sped through a security checkpoint. After a high-speed chase, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes. A swift search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition. Efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing, with initial intelligence suggesting a link to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba, which remains under investigation.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operatives for their gallantry and thanked the public for their cooperation. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to eliminating crime, illegal arms, and exploitative practices targeting vulnerable populations. The public is urged to remain vigilant, avoid entrusting children to strangers, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
