Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has officially inaugurated the Enugu State Human Capital Development Council, a significant step towards achieving the state’s ambitious goal of eradicating poverty. The council, chaired by Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, is tasked with overseeing initiatives to enhance the quality of life for residents, reflecting the administration’s belief that a nation’s true wealth lies in its people.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mbah emphasised that human capital development is a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda. “From the outset, we prioritised human capital development. One of our three transformational goals is to reduce our poverty headcount index to zero,” he stated. To this end, over 50% of the state’s 2024 and 2025 budgets have been allocated to social services, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The council comprises a diverse group of stakeholders, including members of the House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), local government representatives, traditional rulers, the Church, and civil society organisations. Its mandate is to monitor investments, track progress, and ensure that initiatives deliver tangible benefits to the people of Enugu.

Governor Mbah highlighted several people-focused projects, including Green Smart Schools, Primary Healthcare Centres, Farm Estates, transport terminals, and ongoing infrastructure developments. “Everything we do is centred on transforming lives,” he said, expressing gratitude for the council members’ commitment and passion.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to build a system that delivers measurable value to Ndi Enugu, stating, “We are not resting on our oars.” The establishment of the council marks a pivotal moment in Enugu’s journey towards sustainable development and poverty eradication.
