In a dramatic escalation of their public marital troubles, Nigerian Senator Ned Nwoko has accused his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, of battling drug and alcohol abuse, claiming it has led to violent behaviour and property destruction in their home. The allegations come in response to a viral video in which Daniels tearfully alleged domestic violence in their marriage.
Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the Senate, made the claims in a social media post on Sunday, denying any violence on his part and instead portraying Daniels as the aggressor. “Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem,” he wrote. “She must continue her rehabilitation programme, or I fear for her life and safety.”
The senator alleged that Daniels had recently assaulted three staff members and damaged property, including cars and windows, in a fit of rage. He claimed she had moved to a location with “unrestricted access to drugs” and named two individuals, Sammy and Ann, as her alleged drug suppliers, accusing them of orchestrating chaos in the household.
Nwoko insisted that he has set conditions for Daniels to undergo rehabilitation either in Asokoro, Abuja, or abroad, specifically in Jordan, where access to substances would be limited. He referenced an incident involving their son, Moon, stating that a “clear-headed Regina” would have taken the child to hospital, but instead, she threatened their resident nurse after the nurse allegedly exposed her substance abuse.
“I have other wives, and none will ever accuse me of violence. Regina is the violent one here,” Nwoko added, emphasising that his other marriages have been free of such accusations.
The post follows a widely circulated video from Saturday, in which Daniels appeared distraught and surrounded by security personnel. “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my house, I am a queen. Not again, I cannot stand the violence, it is too much,” she said, hinting at mistreatment and announcing her intention to leave the marriage.
Fans and social media users have rallied behind Daniels, expressing concern for her well-being amid the unfolding crisis. Reports suggest she has moved out of Nwoko’s mansion, with some sources claiming her brother confirmed involvement in a confrontation.
Investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo has weighed in, claiming to have spoken directly with Nwoko. According to Olunloyo, the senator described Daniels’ health as “compromised” due to substance abuse and recounted incidents of erratic behaviour.
The couple, who married in 2019 amid controversy over their significant age difference—Daniels was 18 at the time, while Nwoko was 59—have two sons together. Their relationship has often been in the spotlight, with Daniels frequently sharing glimpses of their luxurious lifestyle on social media.
Neither party has issued further statements, and representatives have not responded to requests for comment. The situation has sparked widespread debate online, with opinions divided between support for Daniels and calls for the couple to resolve their issues privately.
