His Excellency Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd) CFR, Betara of Biu, Garkuwan Keffi, former Chief of Army Staff, and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, has dismissed malicious and baseless reports claiming he was attacked. Contrary to these false narratives circulated by certain online platforms, Lt Gen Buratai is safe and well, having celebrated the recent Eid festivities peacefully in Abuja surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers.
In a statement issued by SK Usman, it was confirmed that Lt Gen Buratai has remained in the Federal Capital Territory since the celebrations. The reports of an alleged attack were described as “a product of the reckless imagination of the purveyors of fake news,” aimed at maligning the respected figure and spreading fear and misinformation. Usman condemned the fabricators of these claims as “mischievous” and “deeply irresponsible,” urging the public to disregard such falsehoods.
Expressing gratitude, the statement extended heartfelt appreciation to the numerous Nigerians, friends, associates, and admirers who reached out with concern, prayers, and goodwill. “Your overwhelming show of love and support is deeply cherished and speaks volumes about the enduring respect and affection we are privileged to receive from across the country and beyond,” it read.
The statement also served as a stern reminder to those spreading fake news that “truth will always prevail.” It emphasised that no amount of malicious propaganda could tarnish the reputation of a man who has dedicated his life to serving Nigeria.
The public is urged to rely on verified information and dismiss unfounded rumours, as efforts continue to counter misinformation and uphold the integrity of distinguished national figures like Lt Gen Buratai.
