Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has firmly rejected claims by Mr. Peter Obi that it was responsible for the demolition of a property belonging to his brother. In an official statement released today, the government described the allegations as baseless and urged the public to disregard them.
Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on eGIS & Urban Development, who oversees the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), confirmed that the agency had no involvement in the alleged demolition. The government expressed concern over Mr. Obi’s failure to verify the facts before making such claims, labelling the accusations as disturbing.
“The Lagos State Government is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” said Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, Honourable Commissioner for Information & Strategy. “We will not tolerate any acts of lawlessness or violations of extant laws, and any individual or group found involved in such acts will be brought to justice.”
To address the issue, the government has instructed Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, to initiate a full investigation by LASBCA. This probe aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the demolition and ensure appropriate actions are taken if necessary.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s dedication to maintaining law and order, dismissing attempts to discredit its efforts. It also extended an assurance to all residents of Lagos State, welcoming them to live and work in the state while pledging continued commitment to their safety and well-being.
The Lagos State Government called on the public to ignore Mr. Obi’s claims, emphasising its resolve to work tirelessly for the progress and security of the state.
