Makurdi, Nigeria – 21 June 2025
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research, and Planning, on charges of alleged sextortion and cyber bullying. The arrest, carried out by operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate on Friday, 20 June 2025, follows serious accusations from female students who claim Aondona engaged in unethical and criminal behaviour involving sexual exploitation, cyber bullying, and blackmail.
According to the EFCC, the petitioners alleged that Aondona routinely targeted slim and attractive young women, offering them ushering jobs on the condition of providing sexual favours. The students claimed that, unbeknownst to them, Aondona recorded videos of their sexual encounters without their consent. He is accused of using these videos to blackmail the victims, threatening to leak the footage unless they continued to comply with his demands.
Further allegations suggest Aondona sent explicit videos, recorded without the victims’ knowledge or consent, through various messaging platforms. Reports indicate that some of these videos are already in circulation, exacerbating the harm caused to the victims.
The EFCC has confirmed that Aondona is in custody and will be charged to court in due course as investigations continue. The case has sparked widespread concern, highlighting issues of sexual exploitation and the misuse of power in Nigeria.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime and protecting vulnerable individuals from such predatory behaviour. Further updates on the case are expected as legal proceedings progress.
