Tinubu sacks Edun and Dangiwa in cabinet reshuffle, Elevates Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, with two ministers departing and their successors named.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Mr Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa are to leave the cabinet.

Mr Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele. Mr Oyedele, formerly Minister of State in the same ministry, will now assume the full role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Mr Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate. Arc. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo directs that all handing-over and taking-over processes must be completed by close of business on Thursday 23 April 2026.

Explaining the decision, Senator Akume said the changes were designed “to strengthen cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda”.

He added that the President had exercised the powers conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours. He also assured all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous”.
