Peter Obi Donates ₦10 Million to St. John Vianney College After Debate Victory

Ukwulu, Anambra – On Friday, 4th July 2025, Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and prominent Nigerian political figure, visited St. John Vianney Science College in Ukwulu to celebrate the institution’s triumph at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship. The students’ remarkable victory has brought pride not only to Anambra but to Nigeria as a whole.

In a heartfelt gesture to support the school’s continued growth, Obi donated ₦10 million towards infrastructural development, emphasising the importance of a conducive learning environment for fostering global competitiveness. “A sound learning environment remains essential if our children are to compete globally,” he stated during his address.

Obi congratulated the students and staff, urging the young debaters to view their achievement as a collective triumph for Nigerian youth. “Your victory shows that excellence can emerge from our classrooms,” he said, encouraging them to continue studying diligently as the nation’s future rests in their hands.

The former governor also praised the school’s staff and management for their dedication, noting that their success demonstrates the potential of rural schools to achieve global standards when adequately supported. He extended special appreciation to the school’s proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Fr. Ebube Muonso), for his visionary leadership and commitment to academic excellence and moral development.
